Gathara’s World: Hold our Public Officials Responsible for State Failings – Not the People

I follow a marvelous political blog called “Gathara’s World.” It is written by a writer, cartoonist and strategic communications consultant in Kenya, Patrick Gathara, and it is simply one of my favorite blogs. Now, why do I love it so much, apart from the fact that it is extremely well written and regularly focuses on corruption and governance issues? Because, almost word for word, it reminds me so much of Jamaica that I often laugh out loud while reading it. Even though obviously there are small cultural details that are quite different, it so often “rings a bell.” Today Mr. Gathara tackles the frequently voiced and popular view that the situation is all the fault of citizens and the society.
